HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 07212009 - C.59RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, on behalf of the Service Integration Program (SIT) to apply for and accept California Department of Social Services, Office of Child Abuse Prevention funding in an amount up to $1,236,000 for a three-year pilot program, Supporting Father Involvement, to improve the family function of low income families for the period of July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2012. FISCAL IMPACT: County to receive up to $1,236,000 for a 3 three-year period ($412,000 per year) for the Service Integration Team pilot program, Supporting Father Involvement. (No County match) BACKGROUND: Employment and Human Services through the Service Integration Team's North Richmond Family Services Center has an opportunity to provide the Supporting Father Involvement Program to families in West County. The assumption is that if the program can reduce symptoms of distress in the parent-participants, affect the quality of their relationship as a couple, improve each of their relationships with the child and with their families of origin, and help them to use social supports more effectively to cope with life stresses, a positive preventive effect on child abuse and neglect and, more generally, healthy family development, will be created. (#29-529-0) CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: The funding will provide a pilot program, Supporting Father Involvement, to support all five of the community outcomes established in the Children's Report Card, 1) "Children Ready for and Succeeding in School"; 2) "Children and Youth Healthy and Preparing for Productive Adulthood"; 3) Families that are Economically Self Sufficient"; 4) Families that are Safe, Stable and Nurturing"; 5) "Communities that are Safe and Provide a High Quality of Life for children and Families" by strengthening the family function of low income families and by fostering and encouraging parent involvement of in the family dynamic.
