APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Librarian, or designee, to apply for and accept a grant in
the amount of $2,000 from ConocoPhillips to provide children’s books for the Rodeo
Library the period of July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2010.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No fiscal impact.
BACKGROUND:
The $2,000 received from ConocoPhillips will enhance library service to the citizens of
Rodeo. The grant funds will be used to purchase children’s books for the Rodeo Library.
This up-to-date material will be available for use by students working on school
assignments and interested in expanding their reading for pleasure.

stage for a child’s success in learning to read. The availability of books from an early age is
critical to that success and growing up with books creates a life-long love of reading.
Therefore, public libraries play an important role in a community. They equalize access to
books, making sure all families are able to help their child’s enjoy reading from an early
age. An attractive children’s collection at the Rodeo Library, with a larger selection of
materials, will draw more families to the library and encourage regular exposure to reading
and books.
