Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee (Wendel Brunner,
MD), to execute, on behalf of the County, Novation Contract #22-219-45 with Compass
Group USA, Inc., a corporation, in an amount not to exceed $1,855,346, to provide meal
services for County’s Senior Nutrition Program for the period from July 1, 2009 through
June 30, 2010. This Contract includes a three-month automatic extension through
September 30, 2010 in an amount not to exceed $463,837.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This Contract is funded 100% by federally funded, through the State, under Title III C 1 and
Title III C 2 of the Federal Older Americans Act of 1965. No County funds are required.
BACKGROUND:
This Contractor was selected to provide meals for the Senior Nutrition Program through a
competitive bid process conducted by the County’s General Services Department
(Purchasing Services).

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
population in that it provides approximately 446,000 bulk, prepackaged, sodium restricted,
and prepackaged frozen meals, on 250 County-designated serving days, throughout the
County, for elderly, handicapped, and AIDS/HIV diagnosed citizens of Contra Costa
County.
On June 26, 2008 the Board of Supervisors approved Novation Contract #22 219 43 (as
amended by Contract Amendment Agreement #22 219 44) with Compass Group USA, Inc.,
for the period from July 1, 2008 through June 1, 2009, which included an automatic
extension through October 31, 2009, for the provision of meal services for County’s Senior
Nutrition Program.
Approval of Novation Contract #22–219 45 replaces the automatic extension under the
prior contract, and allows the Contractor to continue providing services through June 30,
2010.
