APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Sheriff-Coroner, or designee, to execute a contract with
the Contra Costa Community College District to pay the County an amount not to exceed
$442,400 to provide educational courses for the Law Enforcement Training Center for the
period July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009.
FISCAL IMPACT:
$442,400 - 100 % funded by the Contra Costa Community College District
BACKGROUND:
The Contra Costa County Community College District and the Law Enforcement Training
Center (LETC) have joined forces to provide college education credits for students
attending the Basic Academy. The District ensures that specific course offerings meet all of
the appropriate State of California Code of Regulations and Education Codes and the Law
Enforcement Training Center provides the Instructors, facilities, equipment, day-to-day
management support and all necessary related overhead while maintaining the requirements

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
for Police Officers Standard and Training (P.O.S.T.). This contract allows the County to
recover partial costs for providing class instruction through partial distribution of tuition
fees received by the District for classes offered at the LETC. These classes are part of the
Basic Academy curriculum as specified by P.O.S.T. and are mandated whether an
agreement to authorize college credits is in force or not.
