HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 06162009 - C.32RECOMMENDATION(S):
ADOPT Position Adjustment Resolution No. 20695 to add one Librarian position
(represented) effective July 1, 2009, to prepare for the opening of the new Lafayette Library.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No fiscal impact to the County general fund. The cost associated with this action is $78,864
annually. Staffing costs for the new Lafayette Library will be covered by the City of
Lafayette. The City has committed to funding library staffing costs beyond the County's
base level.
BACKGROUND:
Library staff has worked closely with the City of Lafayette to plan the opening of the new
Library. The City of Lafayette will be contributing annually to the cost of the increased
library staffing. The Library expects workforce reductions effective June 30, 2009, including
reductions to 40/40 Librarian positions. Adding one 40/40 Librarian position on July 1,
2009 for the Lafayette Library would significantly mitigate the impact of workforce
reductions and significantly reduce program disruption at the other community library
locations from displacements.

Subject:Add one 40/40 Librarian
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this position is not added on July 1, 2009, the layoff impacts will be deeper,
displacements of other community library staff increased, and cuts in public service at
some locations more immediate.
