Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee (Jeff Smith, M.D.), to
execute, on behalf of the County, Contract #26-601-2 with Landrus Pfeffinger, M.D.
(Specialty: Orthopedics), a self-employed individual, in an amount not to exceed $125,000
to provide professional orthopedic services at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and
Contra Costa Health Centers, for the period from June 1, 2009 through May 31, 2011.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This Contract is funded 100% by Enterprise Fund I. Cost to the County depends upon
utilization. As appropriate, patients and/or third party payors will be billed for services.
BACKGROUND:
For a number of years, the County has contracted with Medical, Dental and Mental Health
Specialists to provide specialized professional services that are not otherwise available in its
hospital and clinics.
On May 20, 2008, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-601-1 with Landrus
Pfeffinger, M.D.

Approval of Contract #26-601-2 will allow the Contractor to continue to provide
professional orthopedic services, through May 31, 2011.
