HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 06092009 - C.50RECOMMENDATION(S): ADOPT Resolution No. 2009/260 approving and authorizing the County Probation Officer, or designee, to apply for and accept the Juvenile Accountability Block Grant (JABG), California Gang Reduction and Intervention Program (CalGRIP) in an amount not to exceed $100,000 for staff training and implementation of an evidence-based model of aggression replacement training for juvenile offenders, for the period July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2011. FISCAL IMPACT: $111,111; $100,000 Federal, $11,111 In-Kind match. The In-Kind match will be met by $5,000 in administrative overhead and $6,111 in Youthful Offender Block Grant (YOBG) funding. At the Governor's request to support the CalGRIP initiative, the State Advisory Committee on the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (SACJJDP), which oversees the use of JABG funds, recommended to the Corrections Standards Authority (CSA) Board that $1.1 million of federal JABG funds be used in an effort to reduce gang and youth violence. At the recommendation of OGYVP, the SACJJDP specifically recommended that those funds support efforts to build capacity within Probation Departments to implement or expand the evidence-based model of aggression replacement training for juvenile offenders. Training and technical assistance for Aggression Replacement Training (ART) will be provided by vendors identified by the CSA to Probation Department staff to implement model programming at the Orin Allen Youth Rehabilitation Facility (OAYRF) and the Youthful Offender Treatment Program (YOTP).
