HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 05192009 - C.24RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the District Attorney, or designee, to submit an application and execute a grant award agreement, and any extensions thereof pursuant to State guidelines, with the California Emergency Management Agency, Law Enforcement and Victim Services Division, for funding of the Victim/Witness Assistance Program in the amount of $492,277 for the period July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2010. FISCAL IMPACT: $492,277; Budgeted. No County match. BACKGROUND: The State has funded Contra Costa County's Victim/Witness Assistance Center since the early 1980s. The District Attorney operated the program until 1986 when the Board of Supervisors transferred responsibility for the program to the Probation Department. On June 22, 2004, the District Attorney was once again designated by the Board of Supervisors as the provider of comprehensive victim and witness services for the County, effective July 1, 2004. The grant application will continue to fund staff salaries and benefits to provide services to victims and witnesses of crimes.
