ADOPT Position Adjustment Resolution No. 20685 to add (1) full-time Assistant Director
of Environmental Health Services (VLGA) position in the Health Services/Environmental
Health Division.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost of this action will be approximately $162,390.74 annually. Cost will be offset by
various program fees. There is no net County cost associated with this request.
BACKGROUND:
The Environmental Health Division has utilized the Assistant Director of Environmental
Health Services classification to assist the Director with the management of five (5) units
within the Division, which include Retail Food, Consumer Protection, Solid and Medical
Waste, Land Use Development, and Data Management Systems, as well as overall
administration and policy matters for the Division.
With the increase of staff, development of new mandated programs, increase in demand for
Environmental Health

Subject:Add one full-time Assistant Director of Environmental Health Services position
BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
Services, multiple legislative changes, and the development and maintenance of a
complex data management system, there is need for additional management oversight.
The current Assistant Director will be responsible for managing the Land Use
Development, Watershed Protection, Solid Waste, and Illegal Dumping programs and the
newly requested second position will be responsible for managing the Consumer
Protection, Retail Food, Food Safety, and Data Management related programs.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this action is not approved, the current Assistant Director of Environmental Health
Services is unable to provide the necessary time and/or dedicated focus to manage the
program, nor the required oversight of the five (5) units and their respective personnel.
