(All Districts) FISCAL IMPACT: No Fiscal Impact BACKGROUND: In celebration of Public Works Week, the Public Works Department would like to involve and acquaint all citizens and civic organizations by providing information about the Public Works Department, including the challenges involved in providing public works services, and recognizing the contributions that public works officials make every day to our health, safety, and comfort. WHEREAS public works services provided in our community are an integral part of our citizens’ everyday lives; and WHEREAS the support of an understanding and informed citizenry is vital to the efficient operations of public works systems and programs such as water, sewers, streets and highways, public buildings, solid waste, and WHEREAS the health and safety, and comfort of this community greatly depend on these facilities and services, and WHEREAS the efficiency of the qualified and dedicated personnel who staff public works departments are materially influenced by the people’s attitude and understanding of the importance of the work they perform; now therefore Now, Therefore, Be it Resolved: that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County, does hereby proclaim May 17-23, 2009 as NATIONAL PUBLIC WORKS WEEK in Contra Costa County, and call upon all citizens and civic organizations to acquaint themselves with the problems involved in providing public works services and to recognize the contributions that public works officials make every day to our health, safety, and comfort. ___________________ SUSAN A.
