THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA
Adopted this Order on November 27, 1984by-the following votes
AYES: Supervisors Powers , Fanden , Schroder , McPeak, Torlakson
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None
SUBJECT: Problems Incurred with the November 6, 19849
General Election
Following the presentation of the official Canvass of
Votes by the County Clerk, Board members discussed the problems
encountered during the November 6, 1984, General Election , and
particularly, the election of council members for the City of
Brentwood . There was agreement the cause of this problem was the
result of an inadequate house numbering system .
L . Underwood , Elections Supervisor , advised that a recount
of the election returns applicable to the Brentwood City Council
member election had been completed and that the results were con-
sistent with the computerized count . Mr . Underwood also expressed
concern with respect to the lack of a uniform house numbering
system in some of the rural areas of the County (such as Brentwood)
and the adverse impact this can have on an election.
Supervisor S . W. McPeak recommended that Mr . Underwood
communicate these concerns to the cities so that measures can, be
taken to avoid said problems in future elections .
Supervisor T . Torlakson concurred and also recommended
that a letter be sent to the Brentwood Postal Service , with a copy
to Congressman George Miller , of the problems encountered in the
recent Brentwood City election because of the lack of a uniform
house numbering system.
IT IS BY THE BOARD ORDERED that the recomendations of
Supervisors McPeak and Torlakson are APPROVED .
I hereby certify that this is a true and correct copy of
an action taken and entered on the minutes of the
Board of Supervisors on the date shown.
