APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment & Human Services Department director, or designee, to apply for
and accept grant funds from the Kaiser Permanent Community Benefit Program not to exceed $29,000 for a physical
activity initiative for the term July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2010.
FISCAL IMPACT:
100% Private grant funding of $29,000. There is no County match required to receive the funds.
BACKGROUND:
The Employment & Human Services Department, Community Services Bureau is submitting a grant application to
Kaiser Permanente Community Benefit Program in the amount of $28,991 for the term July 1, 2009 through June 30,
2010 for a healthy children's initiative program.
The proposed project, if funded, will address three goals:
(1) To increase the quantity of time children spend in moderate to vigorous physical activity during their daily
routine, to meet national guidelines for physical activity;
(2) To improve structured movement experiences

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
The Employment & Human Services Department Community Services Bureau supports three of Contra Costa
County’s community outcomes - Outcome 1: “Children Ready for and Succeeding in School,” Outcome 3: “Families
that are Economically Self-sufficient,” and, Outcome 4: “Families that are Safe, Stable, and Nurturing.” These
outcomes are achieved by offering comprehensive services, including high quality early childhood education,
nutrition, and health services to low-income children throughout Contra Costa County.
