HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 11271984 - 2.7 J THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adopted this Order on November 27 , 1984 , by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Power , Fanden, Schroder , McPeak, Torlakson NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: None SUBJECT: Selection of District Attorney The Board received a November 20, 1984 , memorandum signed jointly by Phil Batchelor , County Administrator, and Harry D. Cisterman, Director of Personnel , commenting on the. .. process approved by the Board relative to the selectionof a candidate for the position of District Attorney. In its discussion of the procedures to be followed in the interview process , it was agreed that the interviews would begin at 2 p.m. on December 3 , 1984. THEREFORE, IT IS BY THE BOARD ORDERED that December 3 , 1984 , commencing at 2 p.m. at the Sheraton Inn, 45 John Glenn Drive , (Sycamore Room) , Concord , is FIXED as the time and place for interviewing the eight highest ranked candidates ( as listed on said memorandum attached hereto and by reference incorporated herein) for the position of District Attorney. IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that the County Administrator is DIRECTED to solicit input from the presiding judges of the Municipal and Superior Courts on issues relating to operation of the District Attorney' s Office which may be incorporated in the interviews with the candidates. Cisterman, Director of Personnel RECOMMENDED ACTION Review applications, submissions and results of the Application Review Committee for District Attorney and determine those individuals who should be invited for interview. The recruitment plan approved by the Board of Supervisors and the recruitment brochure for District Attorney indicated that the Director of Personnel would combine the independent rankings of the Committee members to determine the eight (8) highest ranked applicants and forward their names to the Board. The names of the eight highest ranked candidates in alphabetical order are : James E. Dremann John W. McTigue C. L. Morris L. Douglas Pipes Michael D. Tucevich Gary T. Yancey Jack N. Waddell Donald P. Whyte The names of the remaining twelve (12) candidates in alphabetical order ares: Katherine Alexander James H. Disney Richard P. Groff Gerard J. Hinckley David J. Levy Glenn A. Mahler Michael V. Mahoney Michael E. Platt Ft q John M. ' Starr u Eugene M. Swann Donald K. Wahlberg Roderick E. Walston r Board Members November 20, 1984 Page Two The members of the Application Review Committee were : a retired California Superior Court 'Judge, an active California District Attorney, a former California District Attorney, a former President of the California Bar Association and a retired California County Administrator. The evaluations were based upon the written applications of the candidates including answers to the supplemental questionnaire. The evaluations by the Committee members were undertaken with, the understanding that their individual ranking of candidates would remain confidential. Please be prepared to advise staff at your November 27 meeting as to those candidates the Board wishes to interview.
