SUBJECT: Ambulance Contracts for Assigned
Emergency Response Areas
In a memorandum to the Board dated November 20, 1984 ,
William Walker , M .D.. , County Health Officer , described the competi-
tive bid and review process for contracts to provide ambulance
services for emergency (Code-3) and urgent (Code-2) calls dispatched
by County Communications and the Delta Regional Communications
Center . Dr . Walker advised that a public hearing was held on
November 16, 1984 , on proposed changes in emergency response area
designations . He advised that the awarding of the ambulance
contracts is based on the establishment of five emergency response
areas (a change from the 10-area configuration) and eliminates the
need for ambulance subsidies . Dr . Walker recommended that contracts
for two-year terms commencing December 29, 1984, be awarded as
follows:
Emergency Response Area I : Cadillac Ambulance Service
Area: Includes all of West County, Martinez, Pleasant
Hill , Lafayette , Orinda , and that portion
of Walnut Creek west of Highway 680 .
Emergency Response Area II : Regional Medical Systems
Area: Includes Concord , Clayton , a portion of Walnut
Creek east of Highway 680 , and unincorporated
areas up to the East County 911 district
boundaries .
Emergency Response Area III : Moraga Fire Protection
District
Area: Includes the Moraga Fire Protection District
boundaries .
Emergency Response Area IV: San Ramon Valley Fire
Protection District
Area: Includes Alamo , Danville , San Ramon , and the
unincorporated areas in southern Contra Costa
County
Emergency Response Area V: Regional Medical Systems
Area: Includes all of East County.
IT IS BY THE BOARD ORDERED that the recommendations of
Dr . Walker are APPROVED and that the Chairman is AUTHORIZED to
