HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 04072009 - C.71RECOMMENDATION(S):
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Purchasing Agent to execute a purchase order with
Unified TelData, Inc., on behalf of the Department of Information Technology, in an
amount not to exceed $ 520,000 to purchase an Avaya S8730/650 Private Box Exchange
(PBX).
FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost of $520,000 is budgeted under FY 2008/2009 and is charged back to user
Departments via the DoIT billing process.
BACKGROUND:
The Harris LH PBX was installed in 1991 at 595 Center Ave. to serve both 595 and 597
Center Ave for their Voice Telephone communications needs.
It has been an extremely reliable system. However, its production life ended in 1996, and in
year 2000 new service parts became unavailable.
Although we have been utilizing used and refurbished parts to extend the service life of the
Harris LH PBX, the supply of service parts, used or refurbished, have now become
exhausted.

Subject:Replacement Purchase of Harris LH Private Box Exchange (PBX)
Thus, it has become no longer feasible to run this PBX in production for any extended
length of time.
BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
The Avaya S8730/650 PBX will replace the Harris LH PBX.
In accordance with Administrative Bulletin No 611.0, County Departments are required
to get Board approval for single item purchases over $100,000. The County
Administrator’s Office has reviewed this request and recommends approval.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If not approved outdated telephone equipment could fail which would lead to a failure of
telephone service to both 595 and 597 Center Ave.
