Recommendation(s):
Approve Appropriation Adjustment No. 5065 authorizing the transfer of appropriations in the amount of $147,067 from
the Office of the Sheriff (0255) to General Services, Fleet Operations (0063) to purchase a prisoner transport vehicle for
the Office of the Sheriff-Custody Services Bureau.
Fiscal Impact:
This action increases appropriations in General Services, Fleet Operations (0063) and reduces appropriations in Office of
the Sheriff (0255) by $147,067, offset by long-term savings in from reduced fuel costs and consumption.
Background:
The Sheriff's Office requests to procure a purpose-built transport vehicle capable of transporting up to 27 prisoners,
including two wheelchair users. The requested vehicle will triple the capacity of existing single transport vans and will
allow the Sheriff's Office to transport medium-size groups of prisoners without resorting to the use of a 40-passenger bus.
Additionally, the new transport vehicle will take the place of three existing prisoner transport vans and, as such, may be
expected to lower total fuel costs and consumption.
The purpose-built vehicle will also offer additional security and features three separate transport "cells". The purpose-built
vehicle is modular in design and will allow reuse on a different cab and chassis should the existing chassis become
unserviceable.
