RESOLUTION NO. _/84 /664+
SUBJECT: Loan Application for Parking Lot Light Conversion
WHEREAS, Contra Costa County operates 233 incandescent and
mercury vapor parking lot lights at various County facilities; and
WHEREAS, conversion of these parking lot lights to high pressure
sodium would reduce energy consumption by more than 60% (from 377,733 kwh
per year to 137,743 kwh per year) while maintaining approximately the same
light levels; and
WHEREAS, conversion of the parking lot lights would cost $77,325
with a payback of 4.6 years (saving about $16,700 each year) ; and
WHEREAS, the California Energy Commission has low interest
9.5% loans available to finance the conversion. The loan would be paid
back out of energy savings.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Public Works Director is
hereby authorized and directed to submit a loan application to the Cali-
fornia Energy Commission for parking lot light conversion.
