HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 10021984 - X.11 �I THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adopted this Order on October 2, 1984 by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Powers, Fanden, McPeak, Torlakson NOES: None ABSENT: Supervisor Schroder ABSTAIN: None SUBJECT: Proclaiming October 8 to 14, 1984, as "Domestic Violence Awareness Week" WHEREAS, domestic violence has been recognized as a crime by the Attorney General of the State of California; and WHEREAS ,domestic violence is one of the largest contributors to violent crime committed in California; and WHEREAS, the tragedy of domestic violence extends far beyond the lives of the immediate victims to the lives of children; and WHEREAS, domestic violence is' a major social problem which occurs among all ages, races, cultures, occupations, levels of education and socio-economic backgrounds; and WHEREAS, services such as shelters for battered women and their families, child protective services, and counseling centers for the abusing family have been established in this county; and WHEREAS, Battered Women's Alternatives joins with other concerned citizens in our community to recognize and assist those who are victimized and declare our unity with law enforcement and other agencies in eliminating the problem of domestic violence; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the week October 8 to 14, 1984, is hereby proclaimed as ,Domestic Violence Awareness Week and Saturday, October 14, 1984 as "National Day of Unity Against Domestic Violence" in Contra Costa County, so that community awareness and participation in violence prevention may be encouraged. I hereby certify that this Is a true and correct copy of an action taken and entered on the minutes of the Board of Supervisors on the date shown.
