HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 01241984 - T.3 to THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTYs CALIFORNIA Adopted this Order On J anu a ry 2 4, 19 8 4 by qt following rote: AYES: Supervisors Powers , Fanden, Schroder, McPeak, Torlakson NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: None SUBJECT: Special Emergency Medical Services Tax The Board on January 10, 1984 having fixed this date to receive testimony on whether the Board should place on the ballot in June 1984 a proposal to impose a special tax on property within the county to support a comprehensive county- wide Emergency Medical Services program; and The Board having received a January 10 , 1984 letter from Michael W. Blodgett, Chief, San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District, advising that the Board of Directors of the District opposes the proposed special Emergency Medical Services tax; and The Board having received a January 17., 1984 letter from Howard P. Abelson, Mayor, City of E1 Cerrito, expressing the concerns of the City Council with respect to the proposed tax and advising that the Council could not support it at this time; and The Board having also received a January 4 , 1984 letter from Richard D. Hildebrand, Mayor, City of. Walnut Creek, request- ing that there be more .public discussion of the proposal and suggesting that it is premature to place this matter on the ballot in June 1984 ; and Fire Chief William Maxfield, Contra Costa Eounty Fire Protection District, in a January 19 , 1984 letter to the Board. having endorsed the proposal for a special tax for Emergency Medical Services but having expressed reservations as to placing it before the electorate on the June 1984 ballot; and A January 24 , 1984 letter having also been received from Keith Hayden, Chairman, East County Emergency Medical Services Committee, having agreed to the desirability for a coordinated county-wide Emergency Medical Services system but having indicated - that placing the measure on the ballot at this time would be premature; Supervisor Robert I . Schroder having advised that he needs to have more information on the proposal prior to making a determination for placing it on the ballot; and Supervisor Nancy C. Fanden having concurred and having recommended that said proposal be referred to the Internal Opera- tions Committee (Supervisors Powers and Fanden) ; and Board members being in agreement, IT IS ORDERED that the proposal for a special tax to fund. Emergency Medical Services is referred to the Internal Operations Committee for review and recommendation as to the parameters that need to be established prior to requesting the electorate to vote on a ballot measure . 349 IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that the aforesaid letters are REFERRED to the Emergency Medical Services Care Committee and the Acting Health Services Director (Emergency Medical Services staff) . cc: Chief Michael Blodgett .
