Background
The Chair of the Private Industry Council of Contra Costa County requests that a Certificate
of Appreciation be issued to each entity listed above for their participation in and
contribution to the 1983 Summer Youth Jobs Program. Last year, the PIC recognized the need
for a cooperative effort to assist young people in obtaining summer employment and so
sponsored and coordinated a county-wide unsubsidized Summer Youth Jobs Program. The program
was open to all county youth. The Board of Supervisors spear-headed the campaign to have
every business in every city in the county personally contacted by a letter encouraging them
to hire a young person for the summer. The PIC is pleased to report that as a result of the
concerted effort by the above civic and community groups and the enthusiastic response from
employers and homeowners to the summer youth campaign over 3,000 young people found
employment during the summer vacation period.
The PIC is further pleased to report that as a result of the outstanding success of the
program and what it accomplished for the young people of this .county, the PIC will again
sponsor a Summer Youth Jobs Program during the summer of 1984.
