Lloyd MacDonald ) Resolution No. 84/33
Orinda Citizen of the Year, 1984 )
WHEREAS Lloyd MacDonald has been selected Orinda's
thirty-fourth Citizen of the Year; and
WHEREAS Lloyd MacDonald, his wife Joan, and their three
children have resided in Orinda for over twenty-five years; and
WHEREAS Lloyd MacDonald cares for the safety of his
fellow Orindans through dedicated tenure as a commissioner of
the Orinda Fire Protection District; and
WHEREAS Lloyd MacDonald, member of a distinguished
Oakland family, connected the need for safe, dignified housing
in the Orinda area for senior citizens with a similar project he
investigated in Oakland as a member of the Board of Directors of
the Oakland Rotary; and
WHEREAS Lloyd MacDonald serves as a moderator for the
Orinda Community Church; and
WHEREAS Lloyd MacDonald conceived a plan to construct
the Orinda Senior Village on Orinda Community Church land,
thereby expanding and enhancing the Church' s ministry; and
WHEREAS Lloyd MacDonald guided the Orinda Senior Village
.through the arduous approval process to eventual success, expending
countless hours of his own time; and
WHEREAS Lloyd MacDonald directed the construction and
occupancy of the Orinda Senior Village, aided by the many capable .
volunteers he persuaded to join him; and
WHEREAS Lloyd MacDonald understands that a dream remains
only that until it is brought to fruition; and
WHEREAS the Orinda Senior Village now stands as a testimony
to the attainment of that dream, a reality of of steel and stucco,
glass and wood;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors
of the County of Contra Costa, California, hereby CONGRATULATES
Lloyd MacDonald upon his selection as Orinda Citizen of the Year
and COMMENDS his compassionate, productive community service.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the BOARD extends to Lloyd
MacDonald its best wishes for much further personal and community
success and EXPRESSES its appreciation for his substantial efforts
for the protection and care of County Citizens.
PASSED AND ADOPTED on January 17, 1984, by unanimous
vote of the Board members present. .
I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct
copy of a resolution entered on the minutes of. the Board of
Supervisors on the date aforesaid.'
