SUBJECT: Commendation - Marine Patrol Division of the Sheriff/Coroner Office
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
IT IS BY THE BOARD ORDERED that the Marine Patrol Division of the
Sheriff-Coroner Office is commended for its outstanding assistance to the
residents of Bradford Island during the levee failure on December 3, 1983.
BACKGROUND
On December 3, 1983 the West side of the levee at Bradford Island was subjected
to extreme wind, high tides and rainfall and the Marine Patrol Division of the
Sheriff-Coroners Office did provide transportation, communication, and
evacuation assistance to the residents of the stricken Delta Island.
This division with extremely reduced staff continued to maintain security patrol
around the island even after the evacuation to minimize looting, vandalism,
injury and/or contamination.

SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
IT IS BY THE- BOARD ORDERED that the Bethel Island Fire Department is commended
for its outstanding assistance to the residents of Bradford Island during the
levee failure on December 3, 1953.
BACKGROUND
On December 3, 1953, the West side of the levee at Bradford Island was
subjected to extreme wind, high tides and rainfall and the Bethel Island Fire
Department did provide warning, notification, transportation and evacuation
assistance to the residents of the stricken Delta Island.
The Department, with a small staff and limited equipment, provided outstanding
life-saving service to the community.
