We acknowledge the fact that cuts have to be made, but are distressed that in this round 50 percent of the total A/DA/MH reduction was apportioned to the Alcohol Program due to the circumstance of vacant positions occurring in the AIRS Program. This distribution is inequitable, in light of the fact that uti- lization rates are high and cost units are low for the alcohol programs. We wish to inform you that all of the alcohol programs currently have long waiting lists, and the staffs report that the demand for service has never been as intense as in these last six months. Recognizing the difficult budgetary position you are in, we are not opposing reductions in alcoholism services. However, we will expect that restoration of alcoholism funding will be a top priority in the event that any new monies become available to the county during this fiscal year or subsequently. Sincerely, i; William F. (Bill) Taylor Chairperson pr cc: Jerry Nava Stuart McCullough C. L. Van Marter 2 6`6°.-4 .
