IN THE MATTER OF RECOGNIZING RESOLUTION NO. 2008/643
MARK MORELLO
FOR BEING NAMED A FINALIST
FOR CONTRA COSTA COUNTY
"TEACHER OF THE YEAR"
WHEREAS, Mark Morello's path to becoming a music teacher was inauspicious, to say the least. During childhood
Mark's elementary school did not offer music instruction, and his month-long piano lessons,abruptly ended
when his teacher told his mother he "didn't liave much of an car";and
WHEREAS, Mark Morello did not give up his passion for music and participated in his high school band under the
direction of Mx. Aubel. It was his decision to participate in the band and Mr. Abuel's teaching that Mark
credits as the single most important factor inhis pursuing-music and a career in education; and
WHEREAS,Mark Morello received hi"s',Baeheloreof Music,froiri'theUmv sity'of the Pacific, where he was a Student

WHEREAS, Mark Morello began his teaching career with the'Bxentwood Umon'-School District in 1995 as the fifth
grade Band Director. Since lis-beginning with the district, Mark lias Iield numerousZl`ob titles such as, 6-8
Instrumentah'and`Cho1.ral Music=Director, first grade Summer School leacher,'K-5 Classroom Music Teacher,
7-8 Marching Band Instructor, and K-4 Classroom Music Speciahst-and

WHEREAS, Mack:^Ivloiello in his third year of teaching became a BTSA` Support Prodidex andtamentored two
incoimng music teachers. Since that time,-Mark has mentored over;ten music°teachei•s'in the Brentwood and
Byroii,schooljdistricts and holds the-longest BTSA mentoring tenure;in th&Bkentwoodl,School District;and
WHEREAS;;„Mark Morello hang contributed, to.-the Brentwood School,bis helping,Tterview'every music
candidate for;the past eleven years. Mark hasal`so presented music4warksliops to`non`music,ifeachers and
tutored many,'jfellow teachers fox their CSET exam;and
WHEREAS,mark Morelloelielpe`d�create the Contra Costa Perfortmng Arts Standards and:also served on the Visual

WHEREAS, Mark Morello's?ityle of teaching music has shown admimstrators, colleagues,-and parents that music

contribution thus far has beery to facilitate theygiiintuphng,gf the Brentwood music program;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE”-CONTRA COSTA COUNTY BOARD OF
SUPERVISORS HEREBY recognizes Mark Morello for his contributions to Bristow Middle School as well
as his dedication and commitment to education and honors him on being named a finalist in the Contra Costa
County School District"'Teacher of the Year"awards.
