Robert Ellis, Martinez, California. � WHEREAS on Sunday, October 25, 1970 a serious head-on collision occurred on the Martinez-Benicia bridge causing the death of three persons; and WHEREAS the two vehicles involved in the collision caught fire endangering the lives of the other occupants of the colliding; cars; and WHEREAS one of the vehicles was a camper type in which six Girl Scouts were passengers; and WHEREAS the Girl Scouts were injured in the crash and were unable to escape from the wreckage; and WHEREAS Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ellis were driving their sawn car across the bridge when the accident, occurred and were at the crash 'scene immediately following the collision; and WHEREAS Mr. and Mr's. Ellis, at great risk to themselves, responded immediately and extricated the six Girl Scouts from the wreckage and rendered emergency first aid to them; and WHEREAS Mr. and Ctrs. Ellis have subsequently established a qpe c a l Fund to- assist in the payment of the medical expenses of the injured Girl Scouts; NOW, THEREFORE* BE IT BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF CONTRA COSTA, CALIFORNIA RESOLVED that it highly commends 1,1r. and Ctrs. Robert Ellis for the brave action taken by them at great personal risk, compliments them on their fallow-op plan to provide financial assistance for medical care, and urges all their fellow citizens to take cognizance and be appreciative of their courageous life-saving and humanitarian deeds. PASSED and ADOPTED on December 22, 1970 by the following vote of the Boards AYES: Supervisors J. P. Kenny, A. M. }bias, J. E. Moriarty, E. A. Linscheid, T. J. Coll. NOES: None. ABSENT s None.
