HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 09022004 - 70-793 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of the Retirement of Emmett Hitchcock, County RESOLUTION NUMBER 70/793 Tax Collector-Treasurer. WHEREAS Mr. Evmett Hitchcock, County Tax Collector-Treasurer is retiring from, county service at the end of the calendar year 1970; and WHEREAS Mr. Hitchcock entered the employ of the county in 1938 in the position of Deputy Tax Collector and was promoted progressively until he became Assistant Tax. Collector, in which role he served from 1946 ' until 1963; and ;REAS Mr. Hitchcock became a candidate for the elective office of County Tax Colleetor,-Treasurer in 1962, to which office he was elected by a substantial majority of the voters of the county and he took over the duties of that office in 'January, 1963; and WHEREAS Mr. Hitchcock was an unopposed candidate for the office of County Tax Collector-Treasurer in 1966 and is now eon- eluding his second term in that office; and WHEREAS the funds of all government agencies using the county treasury were in the amount of less than 10 million dollars when Mr. Hitchcock became a county employee in 1938 and such funds now exceed well over halt a billion dollars, the tremendous increase reflecting the expanded responsibilities assumed by him; and WHEREAS during the tenure of Mr. Hitchcock now methods of tax collection and treasurer management were introduced for the purposes of precise control, improved public service, and maximum interest earnings** NOW's THEREFORE, BE IT BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF CONTRA COSTA RESOLVED that it extends to Mr. Emmett Hitchcock its deep appreciation for his long and effective service to the county government and the public and wishes hitt a long and happy life in well earned retirement. PASSED and ADOPTED this 24th day of November, 1970 by the following vote of the Board: AYES: Supervisors J. P. Kenny, J. E. Moriarty, E. A. Linsched, T. J. Call. NOES: None ABSENT: Supervisor A. M.
