HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 09012004 - 70-716 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, NATE OF CALIFORNIA In the flutter of Seeking Humane Treatment for American } Prisoners of War Hold by the ) RESOLUTION NO. 70/716 North Vietnw4erse } } WHEREAS the Board of Supervisors has this day received a communication from the Honorable Ed Reineake, Lieutenant Governor of the State of California, pertaining to the humane treatment of prisoners of war and to the release of American 'prisoners held by the North Vietnamese; and WHEREAS Governor Ronald Reagan has proclaimed November 11, Veterans' Daffy, as P.O.W. Day in California; and SEAS the North Vietnamese have refused to abide by the terms of the Geneva Convention on Prisoners of War and have also refused the services on behalf of the prisoners by humanitarian organizations such as the American Red Gross- and WHEREAS American prisoners of war in North Vietnam are suffering great anguish as are their families, relatives and friends; and WHEREAS an expression of public opinion might persuade the North Vietnamese to alter their policy of silence on the state of American prisoners of war as a tactic of warfare NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA' COUX'TY, CALIFORNIA$ RESOLVED that citizens of Contra Costa County are urged to sign a petition to the Government of North Vietnam requesting that said government live up' to the obligations of the Geneva Convention. PASSED and ADOPTED this 27th day of October, 1970, by the following vote AYES: Supervisors J. P. Kenny, A. M. Dias, J. E. Moriarty, E. A. Lins'eheid, T. J. Coll. NOES: None. ABSENT: None.
