In the Matter of Endorsing }
the Program "Let Other } RESOLUTION NUMBER 71/598
Voices Echo" (I .O.V'.E.
WHEREAS Mrs. Benedict Davis Diablo Valley Junior Womens
Club, appeared before the Board on this date.. to explain and request
endorsement of a special program being. organized by her club and
designated as "Let Other Voices Echo" (L.O.V.E. ) ,' and
WHEREAS Mrs. Davi; pointed out that the special program was
to be a benefit performance for Bay Area Veterans returned from the
Vietnam star in appreciation of their sacrifices and dedication to
duty irrespective of differences of opinion on the Vietnam conflict;
and
WHEREAS Mrs. Davi explained that the program involved a'
gigantic entertainment show with free refreshments and food for 10
to 14 thousand veterans,, that Bob Hope would be the Master of
Ceremonies if his schedule 'could be so arranged, and that the show
would be held in the Oakland Coliseum on February 27, 1972: and
IHERE-AS Mrs. Davi, also pointed out that she was requesting
the free use of the Oakland Coliseum for aforesaid affair,, that she
would like to have Board endorsement of her program, and further '
that she would like to have the Board support her request for use
of the Oakland Coliseum facilities without payment therefor
NO , , THEREFORE$ BE IT BY.- THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE
COUNTY OF CONTRA COSTA RESOLVED that it hereby endorses the program
"Let Other` Voices Echo" in. appreciation of the services of Vietnam
Veterans, urges widespread support cif the performance, and requests
the Board of Directors of the Oakland Coliseum to make every practi-
cable
racti,-
cable >effort to diminish to the minimum ,passible amount the charges
made for the use of the coliseum facilities for the aforesaid
purpose.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 7th day of September, 1971 by the
following vote.
AYES; Supervisors A. M. Dias, J. E Moriarty,
W. N. Boggess, E. A Linsche'id,
J. P. Kenny'.
NOES None.
ABSENT: None.
RESOLUTION NUMBER 71/59
