HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 09102004 - 71-522 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Mager of the Passing of } RESOLUTION NUMBER. 71/522 Mr. Howard "Chick" Reed. ) WHEREAS this Board has been apprised of the passing of Mr. Howard "Chick" Reed, widely-known labor leader; and WHEREAS Mr. Reed was first elected to union office nearly half a century ago and served as business representative and secretary-treasurer of the Centra. Costa Building and Construction Trades Council for 32 years; and WHEREAS Mr. Reed also served as regional vice president of the California 'Labor Federation and was a member of its executive board for 17 years; and WHEREAS Mr. Reed, a native Californian and a veteran of World War I, was an active participant in community affairs as reflected by his service as a member of the Samuel Gompers past of the American Legion, Oakland, and of the Richmond lodge of the Elks; and by his service as a trustee of the Contra Costa Labor Blood Bank, and as a member of the executive board of the Contra Costa Labor Health and Welfare Council; and WHEREAS Mr. Reed, while staunchly supporting the interests of labor, was invariably able to make firm representations without creating impasse situations with management officials and to maintain a comprehensive view of labor needs and in relation thereto, the overall interests of the community; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF CONTRA. COSTA, CALIFORNIA RESOLVED that it expresses deep regret on the passing of Mr. Howard "Chick" Reed, extends its deepest sympathy to his family, and commends to all, his many achievements as a labor and community leader. PASSED and ADOPTED this 12th day of August, 1971 by the following vote. AYES: Supervisors A. M. Dias, J. E. Moriarty, W. N. Boggess, E. A. Linscheid, J. P. Kenny. NOES: None. ABSENT: None.
