IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of the Passing of RESOLUTION NUMBER 71/433 Mr. Daniel J. Hurley WHEREAS this Board has been apprised of the recent passing of Mr. Daniel J. Hurley, veteran newspaperman; and WHEREAS Mr. Hurley, born in San Francisco in 1902, moved with his family to Contra Costa County after the 1906 earthquake and fire and remained a county resident throughout his lifetime; and WHEREAS Mr. Hurley devoted most of his adult life to the field of journalism, serving in the capacity of reporter and editor for west Contra Costa County newspapers for more than three decades; and WHEREAS his writings reflected his rare memory and sparkling wit and described factually in a lucid manner events of interest to his readers; and WHEREAS Mr. Hurley was not only a remarkable person in terms of the excellence of his newspaper work but also because his productive career was achieved despite the handicap of total blindness resulting from a childhood accident; and NOW, THEREFORE, on the motion of Supervisor A. M. Dias, seconded by Supervisor J. Po Kenny, BE IT BY THE BOARD OF SUPER- VISORS OF THE COUNTY OF CONTRA COSTA, CALIFORNIA RESOLVED that it expresses deep regret on the passing of Mr. Daniel J. Hurley, extends its deepest sympathy to his family, and commends to all his journalistic attainments--achieved remarkably in total blindness. PASSED and ADOPTED this July 6. 1971 by the following vote of the Board.- AYES: Supervisors A. M. Dias, J. E. Moriarty, W. N. Boggess, J. P. Kenny. NOES: None. ABSENT: Supervisor E. A. Linscheid.
