HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 02141984 - 2.3 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adopted this Order on February 14, 1984 , by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Powers , Fanden, Schroder, McPeak, Torlakson NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: None SUBJECT: REPORT FROM ANIMAL SERVICES DIRECTOR REGARDING PIT BULLS The Board on January 31 , 1984 having asked the Animal Services Director to make a report to the Board in two weeks on the requirements in this County for registration of pit bulls and whether any special precautions are taken with this breed, and requesting input on this matter from the Animal Services Advisory Committee; and The Animal Services Director having submitted a report to the Board out- lining the provisions in the Animal Control Ordinance relating to dangerous animals in general , and noting that the Ordinance does not specifically address pit bulls; and The Animal Services Director having referenced proposed legislation (AB 2208, Assemblyman Tucker) which would allow court action to be taken against the owner of an animal that has bitten a human being on one occasion rather than the current law which requires that the animal have bitten a human being on at least two separate occasions; and The Animal Services Director having noted that the subject of pit bull regulation is scheduled to be discussed by the Animal Services Advisory Committee on March 7, 1984, and that she will provide additional information to the Board . following that meeting which will also include additional information specifically relating to the licensed pit bull population in this County; other available statistical data, and additional general information relating to pit bulls; and Ms. Nancy Bandy of Martinez having addressed the Board regarding a situation involving a stray pit bull who killed two cats in her neighborhood and the difficulties she had faced in trying to get Animal Services to deal with the situation, particularly when it was difficult to establish who owned the dog; and Board members having suggested that Ms. Bandy speak directly with the Animal Services Director; — IT IS BY THE BOARD ORDERED that receipt of the report of the Animal Services Director is-acknowledged and the Animal Services Director is requested to report to the Board again as soon as additional information is available and as soon as recommendations from the Animal Services Advisory Committee are available. 1 hereby eerWy that this Is a true and correct copy of enaction taken and entered on the minutes of the Board of Supervisors on the data shown.
