Rooney ,for Service to the
Memorial Committee for the �
Late Senator George Miller, Jr.
WHEREAS this Board of Supervisorsin 1969 appointed a
committee to make recommendations on a suitable memorial for the
late Senator George Miller, Jr. who served in the California
State Legislature for more than two decades and rendered exemplary
service to the people of the County of Contra Costa; and
WHEREAS the committee met on frequent occasions and looked
into the merits of various means of commemorating on a permanent
basis the outstanding public service of Senator Miller; and
141HEREAS after appraising many possiblities and suggestions
the committee concluded and recommended to the Board of Super-
visors that the two new county development centers for the
mentally handicapped be designated as memorials to Senator Miller,
particularly in view of his successful legislative efforts in the
fields of education and health; and
WHEREAS this Board agreed with the committee recommendation
that the Concord area center be named the George Miller, Jr.
Memorial Center East and the Richmond area center be named the
George Miller, Jr. Memorial Center West; and
'WHEREAS Mrs. Judith Rooney, Martinez, California, served
as seeretar- to the committee and rendered fine service in
connection with its meeting schedules and meeting deliberations;
NOW, THEREFORE, on the motion of Supervisor A. M. Dias,
seconded by Supervisor J. P. Kenny, IT IS BY THE `BOARD OF SUP -
visORS OF THE COUNIff OF CONTRA COSTA, CALIFORNIA RESOLVED that it
officially recognizes the efforts and accomplishments of
Mgrs. Judith Rooney for her significant work in the designation
of a suitable memorial for the late Senator George Miller, Jr. and
expresses to her its sincere thanks and appreciation.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 15th day of June, 1971 by the
unanimous vote of the Board.
