III .
By this application, and attached exhibits made a
part hereof, applicants seek authority under Section 1031,
et seq. , of the California Public Utilities Code to operate
a passenger stage for the transportation of people between
points in Alameda County and Placer County and intermediate
points in Contra Costa County. Description of said routes
are attached hereto as Exhibit A. The intention of this
service is to provide one-day roundtrip service from certain
points in Alameda County to California' s major ski areas.
IV.
Proposed fare, rules, and regulations covering
said transportation will be in accordance with those attached
hereto as Exhibit B.
V.
Applicants propose to perform a regularly scheduled
service on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday during the seasonal
period of operation of the Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows
ski areas - a season which normally runs between December 1
and April 30. Applicants ' proposed schedules are set forth
as Exhibit C.
2. 1-36
•
VI.
Attached hereto as Exhibit D is a map showing the
routes and the areas proposed to be served by applicants.
VII.
Applicants , husband and wife, are respected members
of the community and possess sufficient education and administrative
. experience to successfully manage the proposed service.
Attached hereto as Exhibits E and F are applicants ' resumes.
VIII .
A description of the vehicle to be used in the
initial operation of the proposed routes is:
One 15-passenger 1984 Ford Club Wagon
V-8 engine with automatic transmission
and power brakes
Front and rear air conditioning
With a rack sufficient to hold 15
skis mounted on the rear
IX.
Applicants will have said vehicle , or any other
vehicles they use, covered by liability insurance in amounts
that equal or exceed the minimum required under the Commission' s
General Order No. 101-C.
X.
Attached hereto as Exhibit G is a copy of applicants'
latest available financial statement. Applicants have
sufficient financial resources to institute and operate the
proposed service.
3 .
XI.
The granting of the authority for the operation
herein sought would have no significant adverse effect upon
the environment of tht- areas to be served. On the contrary,
it is believed that the availability of this service would
be a benefit to the environment and to the public by resultant
reduction of private vehicles on the road.
XII.
The following conditions exist which are relied
upon by applicants as justification for granting a certificate
of public convenience and necessity:
1. The sport of skiing is increasing in
popularity, thus requiring an increasing
need for safe, reliable trans-
portation to and from the major ski
areas.
2 . While some forms of public transpor-
tation permit Bay Area skiers to
enjoy a weekend ski trip, applicants
are not aware of any one-day service
tailored to the skier' s needs.
3. There is no direct service to the
major ski areas from the points
described in Exhibit A.
4. The use of existing public transpor-
tation to the Lake Tahoe Basin or
Reno requires skiers to obtain
additional transportation service
from the existing disembarking
stations to the ski areas, making the
trip too time consuming to be practical
for a day trip.
5. The arrival and departure times of
applicants' proposed service are
specifically designed to take full
advantage of the normal operating
schedules of the ski areas.
4.
6. The benefits to-the public to be
derived from travel to ski areas by
applicants' service rather than
private vehicles are obvious. The
present congestion on the highways
and in ski area parking lots is
apparent to even the most .casual
observer. Moreover, because skiing
is a physically demanding sport,
participants may be well advised to
relieve themselves of the job of
driving to and from the ski areas.
For the foregoing reasons, applicants are of the
opinion that the service herein proposed is noncontroversial
in nature and should not be in conflict with any existing
public or Commission-certificated service.
XIII .
Within 10 days after the filing of this application,
applicant will serve copies of this application upon the
parties set forth in Exhibit H and will provide the Commission
with a Proof of Service pursuant to Rule 21 (k) .
WHEREFORE, applicants pray that a certificate be
granted authorizing the operation of the service hereinabove
described and for such further order as may be proper.
Dated l2 / gY at Castro Valley,
California.
