HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 09102004 - 71-277 IN THE BOARD OF SWERV13ORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Municipal } Court Legislation to RESOLUTION NUMBER 71/277 Provide for Consolidation � of Municipal 'Court Judicial � Districts. WHEREAS this Board on April 6, 1971 referred to its Admin- istration and Finance Committee (Supervisors E. A. Linsche d and J. E.' Moriarty) the matter of introducing legislation to create a third department of the Mt. Diablo Municipal Court; and WHEREAS said committee on this date reported to the Board that there was an imbalance in the work load distribution between the five existing Contra Costa County Municipal Courts as reflected by the following statistics: Filings Weighted Judicial Per Judicial Judicial District Filings, Positions Position Mt. Diablo 138,259 2 69,129 Richmond 126,113 3 42,038 San Pablo 62,676 1 62,676 River 60,993 1 60,993 Walnut Creek-Danville 109.172 2 LL.5886 ' Total 417,213 and; WHEREAS said committee recommended that said five municipal court districts be consolidated into one municipal court district with nine judicial positions, and WHEREAS said committee pointed out said consolidation would result in average weighted filings of 55,246 per judicial position and that said average number of weighted filings compare favorably with the California Judicial Council recommended standard of 60,000 weighted filings; and WHEREAS said Committee also recommended that legislation be introduced for theestablishment, of a nine ,fudge municipal court with an option allowing the Hoard of Supervisors to zone the one consolidated municipal court judicial district for the purpose of judicial elections, and WHEREAS said committee further recommended that the County Counsel and the County Administrator be directed to prepare proposed legislation for a municipal court district with nine ,judicial posi- tions and appropriate staff, with provisions for zoning by the Board of Supervisors for election purposes, and that Assembly Bill 1784 be amended to so provide* RESOLUTION NUMBER 7.1/277 .............................. .....................-.... NOW, THEREFORE,, BE IT BY THIS BOARD OF SUPERVISORS RESOLVED that the foregoing recommendations of its Administration and Finance Committee are hereby approved.
