IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Proclaiming April, 1971 as VD AWARENESS RESOLUTION NUMBER 71/241 MONTH. WHEREAS venereal disease is occurring in the State of California in epidemic proportions, it being estimated that the 114,000 cases of gonorrhea and syphilis reported last year actually represent less than 20 percent of the total number of such cases; and WHEREAS in Contra Costa County alone last year nearly 3,000 cases of venereal disease were reported, with persons 15 to 24 years of age accounting for more than 63 percent of the cases; and WHEREAS primary means for prevention and control of the epidemic is through education which is recommended for all seg- ments of the population at appropriate age levels; and WHEREAS in Contra Costa County this educational effort is being supported by the California Federation of Women's Clubs, Junior Membership; the Alameda-Contra Costa Medical Association Auxiliary; and the County Health Department; and WHEREAS the effort to halt the epidemic is statewide, being supported by the Bay Area Venereal Disease Association; the Committee for Eradication of Syphilis; and the Pharmaceutical Associations; and WHEREAS the Venereal Disease Controllers Association of California of which the Contra Costa County Health Department is a member, has proclaimed the month of April, 1971 as VD AWARENESS MONTH; NOW, THEREFORE' BE IT BY THIS BOARD RESOLVED that it hereby proclaims the month of April, 1971 as VD AWARENESS MONTH in the County of Contra Costa. PASSED and ADOPTED this 6th day of April, 1911 by the following vote of the Board : AYES : Supervisors J . E. Moriarty, W. N. Boggess, E. A. Linscheid, J . P. Kenny. NOES: None .
