WHEREAS, a significant number of residents of Contra,Costa County are currently medically underserved for
various reasons, the most prominent.ef whicl rnelucte-financial and cultural barriers, and an insufficient
number of health care providers;and
WHEREAS, the Comm' ifHertd'6nters which comprise the Cbiirrl itrrrity liitic Consortium of Contra Costa
(Brookside Community Health Center, La Clinica de La Raza., and.Pl hed Parenthood: Shasta Diablo)are
private,gp4rpfit corporations governed.by volunteer boards comprised Of conrrliiinity members;and
WHEREAS,001rrmunity Health Centers in Contra.Costa serve a vitazCole in the health careli.safetv net by treating
the media alluninsured, underinsured, and other vulnerable popul cons:and providing a host of services,
including general medical care, dental'care, women's"health care, uffi, b�atibns, testing and treatment for
sexually transmitted infections, health education and illness '� erittbi seting, f'aprily planning, and
ebkollment:-in public'health programs;and
WHEREASAlie commit0d,andihardwiprking staff of the Co nuni-- ealtlt meters prov%de culturally appropriate,
