M. } RESOLUTION' NUMBER 70/598 "Chick Richards, Editor, Richmond Independent. } } WHEREAS this Board has been apprised of the passing of Mr. A. M. "Chi ck'i Richards on September 10, 19703 and 'WHEREAS fir. Richards, a native of Martinez, California, devoted his life to the newspaper business and for the last three decades was editor of the Richmond Independent; and WHEREAS Mr. Richards, a hard worker himself, held the respect of his subordinates and associates from whom he expected equal effort and results, and also earned the high regard of competing newspaper executives; and. WHEREAS Mr. Richards was held in esteem in newspaper circles as indicated by the fact that he was the recipient of a California Assembly Commendation as a newspaperman and was a well known member of the American Society of Newspaper Editors; and WHEREAS Mr. Richards, in addition to his arduous work as a newspaperman, found time to participate In community and public affairs as reflected by his membership in the California Historical Society, the Contra Costa County Historical Association and the Elks and Moose Clubs in Richmond; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COU14TY OF CONTRA COSTA, CALIFORNIA; RESOLVED that it expresses deep regretupon the passing of Mr. A. M. "Chicks; Richards, extends to his wife Helen and the ether members of his family its deepest sympathy, notes through this resolution for official record pur- poses his extended and valuable service to the general public in his newspaper roles, and closes this official meeting in his memory. PASSED AND .ADOPTED on September 15, 1970, by the following vote of the Board: AYES: Supervisors Janes P. Kenny, Alfred M. Dias, James E. Moriarty, .Edmund A. Linseheid, homas John Coll. NOES: Done.
