HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 08302004 - 70-563 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COS'T'A COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Proclaiming September 2 through September 10, ? 1970, Centra Costa County Voter RESOLUTION NUMBER 70/563 Registration Week. � WHEREAS it has been reported that one-third of the American adult population is not registered to vote3 and WHEREAS in Contra Costa County it is estimated that approximately 117,000 of its citizens are not registeredi and *IHEREASduring these days of 'social change, campaigns for equality, and concern for individual rights, it is the sincere desire of this Board that serious attention be given to the privileged right of votingt and WHEREAS' the right to vote is the major American equalizer and every citizen should register in order that he may make hiswill knowrns and WHEREAS one who deliberately neglects to exercise this right is derelict in his duty as an American citizens and WHEREAS the deadline for registering ;in order to qualify to vote in the November 3, 1970 General Election is Thursday, September 10, 19701 and WHEREAS it is hoped that Contra Costa County can take the lead in the percentage of its population who are registered voters and who exercise this right by casting their vote in the upcoming General Elect ons NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA RESOLVED that it does hereby proclaim the week of September 2 through September 10, 1970 as CONTRA COSTA COUNTY VOTED REGISTRATION ''WEEK, BE IT BY THE BOARD FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the Board is directed to send copies of this proclamation to each city in Contra Costa County.
