IN THE MATTER OF COMMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 2004/410
BISHOP HENRY M. WILLIAMSON, SR.,
PRESIDING PRELATE OF THE NINTH
EPISCOPAL DISTRICT
WHEREAS, Bishop Williamson, Sr. is the 52nd Bishop of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, elected
on July 3, 2002 at the General Conference and assigned the Presiding Prelate of the Ninth Episcopal
District which includes five regions and over 100 churches on the West Coast; and
WHEREAS, Bishop Williamson gradctatec : roirt ..the.atistoric Roosevelt High School in Gary, Indiana,
received a B.A. in Sociolb from Purdue,University, received,a Master of Divinity from Garrett-
Evangelical Theological S�rnmary ,cwlth, advanced:.work in Clifiieal Pastoral Education, and was
awarded an honcirary Doctor of Divinity degree from United Thivolbgical Seminary; and
WHEREAS,Bishop Williamson was associate pastor of St.Paul CME Church under the leadership of Bishop
Dotcy 1. Isom., Jr., and as a pastor at Carter Temple CME:Church in,Chica4c::for 16 years, led the
growing'congregatioh'of over 3,000 active members; and
WHEREAS, Bisho' Williamson served as the National President`of"PUSH or the People United to Serve
Humanity froth"1991 to 1993, helping to stabilize the organization fitatcially and"continues to work
with Reverend Jesse Jackson on the National Board of Rainl q, /Pugfij fly

WHEREAS, Bishop Williamson serves on the Boards:of':Northern Trust..Bank and;tlie World Methodist

WHEREAS, Bishop Williamson is currently a trustee of The Phillips School oft Theology and Chairman of
Social Justice and Human Concerns Commission of.tlte CME Church.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the',,13bar&of Supervisors of Contra Costa County joins the
host church Davis Chapel Christian ,Mbthodi t Episcopal Church, its pastor, Rev. William C. Larkin,
and the delegates to the Nineteenth Session of the Northern California Regional Annual Conference,
in honoring Bishop Henry M. Williamson Sr., Presiding Prelate of the Ninth Episcopal District.
