IN THE BOARD OF STPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of improved ) Telephone Service in the RESOLUTION NUMBER 70/450 Lafayette Area. WHEREAS this Board has been advised that citizens of Lafayette have filed a complaint with the California Public Utilities Commission, seeking a toll-free dialing area for Lafayette to include the Piedmont, Berkeley, Fruitvale, Alamedao Martinez and Danville exchanges, with no additional expense to subscribers; and WHEREAS the Commission has scheduled a public hearing on said complaint at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 1970 at the, Stanley 3chool Auditorium, Lafayette, California; and WHEREAS the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company has filed an Advise Letter on Optional Residence Telephone Service (ORTS ) with the California Public Utilities Commission and by decision dated July At 1970 said service has become a permanent offering; and WHEREAS the Lafayette City Council on JON 15o 1970 adopted Resolution No. 64-70 which supports the position of the complainants in said proceeding and urges the Commission to expand Lafayette 's toll-free dialing area as required to provide the residents of Lafayette a telephone service equal to that enjoyed by residents of nearby communities; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RRSOLIED BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY that it endorses the efforts of the Lafayette residents and City Council to obtain a more equitable telephone service area and urges all concerned citizens to attend the Public Utilities Commission hearing an July 280 1970 and make their views known. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 21st day of July, 1970 by the following vote of the Board: AYES: Supervisors A P. Kenny, A. M. Diast E. A. Linscheid, T. J. Coll. NOES: None. ABSENT: Supervisor A E. Moriarty. IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTI, STATE OF CALIFORNIA in the Matter of Reaffirming Po s i t i cin. on Earned Income me } Exemptions in the .did toRBSOLUTION NU B R 70/451 Families with Dependent Children, Program. } WHEREAS a resolution has been received from the Ventura County 'Board: of Supervisors 'requesting that the earned income exemp- tion in the Aid; to Families with Dependent Children Public Assis- tance Program be reviewed and revised by the State Department of Social Wh1fare, U. S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare, and the Congress of the "{;3'nited. States in order that the earned.' income exemptions in the AFDC program be reduced to proportions wb ch will actually operate to provide incentives to recipients to obtain employment and remove themselves from the welfare roles, rather than to continue with a policy which is clearly destroying incentives to do so, and SEAS on June 16, 1970 the Beard of Supervisors of Contra. Costs County' adopted Resolution No. 70/3;53,,requesting the aforesaid governmental bodies to review the AFDC formula and to develop;._a revised formula, which retains the work incentive concept but which prescribes an income limit related to family size and cost of living in the different regions of the country, but which, in; no event, shall emceed. $600 per month in total income, NOW, THEREFORE, BE 1T RESOLVED that the Board of Super- visors of Contra: Costa County does hereby reaffirm its position on the utter and concurs in the recommendation of the Ventura County Board of Supervisors on the request for review and revision of the formula to be used in computing the earned income standards for the AFDC program.
