San Francisco Bay Area.
}
WHEREAS the Corps of Engineers has by a public notice
dated May 1., 1970 indicated the initiation of an In-Depth Navigation-
Study of the San Francisco Bay Area in response to a resolution by
the Congress of the United ' States; and
WHEREAS a major portion of the commercial shipping of
the Bay Area crosses the docks within Contra Costa County; and
WHEREAS one-half of the assessed valuation of the County
is in commercial and industrial installations, many of which rely
on continued access by ships using' the navigable waterways of the
world and
WHEREAS the County recognizes the concurrent need for
careful evaluation of any changes in the environmental and aesthetic
aspects of the estuary of the Golden Gate, and
WHEREAS the impact on the ecological balance of the
estuary must be considered in determining courses of action for
future development of navigation.; and
WHEREAS it is understood that said study by the Corps of
Engineers and other Federal, State, and local agencies will under-
take the task of defining the inter-relationship and the inter--
dependence of these diverse elements as they affect the Bay Region
and will then propose 'alternatives' for future action by local
governments ;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors
of Contra. Costa County, State of California, supports the continua-
tion of this In-Depth Navigation Study with the knowledge that the
information gained will be of great assistance to concurrent plan-
ning underway by County agencies and that the County will cooperate
in any way possible in providing data for use in said Study.
PASSED ANIS ADOPTED this 7th day of July, 1970, by the
following vote of the Board;
