" 53 1 Claim of Mustafa Sekander 2 3 Addendum to: 4 # 3 : 5 All of sudden the bus driver waived at SEKANDER to go 6 through the intersection and SEKANDER, believing there were 7 no vehicle's proceeding N/B on Detroit Avenue (because of 8 the bus driver' s signal) drove through the intersection. 9 10 #4 11 The bus driver is an employee of the County Connection, a 12 public entity known as the Central Contra Costa transit 13 authority. The bus driver negligently and carelessly took 14 the responsibility of directing claimant Mustafa Sekander 15 into the intersection and his actions led Mr. Sekander to 16 reasonably rely upon the signalling of a public employee to 17 proceed through the intersection. Mr. Sekander reasonably 18 believed the intersection was clear at the time of the hand 19 and arm signal to proceed N/B on Detriot Avenue. The act 20 and omission of the bus driver proximately caused the 21 collision between Mr. Sekander in his 1975 Chevrolet and 22 Mr. Vigil in his 1972 Datsun. 23 24 While claimant Sekander denies that any wrongdoing on his 25 part has occurred in this action, or that claimant has in 26 any way committed any acts alleged in plaintiff's i 27 complaint, or damaged it in any way, in the event that 28 HALMS.•JOHNSON. The street on which Ms. Lucas was travelling has a stop sign at Roosevelt Avenue. My client, Ms. Briggs, was travelling on Roosevelt Avenue in a direction perpendicular to that of Ms. Lucas. Ms. Lucas appearently did stop at the stop sign as required by law. However, Ms. Lucas then violated Ms. Briggs right of way when she pulled directly in front of Ms. Briggs. Ms. Briggs, who was driving a motorcycle at the time, struck Ms. Lucas broadside at a speed of 15-20mph. The impact threw Ms. Briggs over the vehicle driven by Ms. Lucas. Ms. Briggs motorcycle was completely drstroyed and she sustained various injuries, none of which required hospitalization. Ms. Lucas was subsequently cited by the Richmond Police Department, Officer Pon, for violation of section 21802a of the California Vehicle Code, Citation number 243478. The value of the motorcycle destroyed by the accident is approximately $1,250.00. Ms. Briggs had medical bills in the area of $125.00 and has gone back t*ork. This letter is to demand the sum of $2,000.00 as settlement of the claim that Ms. Briggs has against the county for the neglience of Ms. Lucas. I realize that County policy is to routinely deny such claims. However, since Ms. Lucas was in fact cited for the violation that caused the accident, perhaps, you will give this claim some extra consideration and avoid the additional cost of litigation.
