HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 08042003 - 70-357 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Opposing } Legislation Shifting Fiscal } RESOLUTION NUMBER 74/357 Responsibility from the State ) of California to Counties. } } WHEREAS the California State Legislature is now taking action to adjust the State of California budget to balance revenues and expenditures; and WHEREAS some of the proposed adjustments will reduce subventions to counties and shift portions of the state fiscal problems to counties; and WHEREAS increasing demands upon counties, including the County of Contra Msta,, have already added to the onerous tax burden on property taxpayers ; and WHEREAS an example of such increasing demand's is illustrated In the Contra Costs. County Preliminary Budget which provides for an increase of $2,250,000 in property tax revenues to cover the cost of expanding welfare programs; and WHEREAS the county tax base, which is much more restricted than the broad tax base of the State of California, cannot support fiscal shifts from the state to the county; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF CONTRA COSTA RESOLVED that it urges Its representa- tives in the California State Legislature to work vigorously in opposition to any and all legislation which will have the fiscal effect of imposing' an additional tax burden upon property tax- payers . PASSED AND ADOPTED this 16th day of June, 1974 by the following vote of the Board: AYES: Supervisors J. P. Kenny, A. M. Dias, J. E. Motiarty, E. A. Linsche d, T. J. Coll. NOES: None . ABSENTS Nene.
