Under they Aid to Families ) RESOLUTION NO. 70/353
with Dependent Children )
Program:. �
WFEREAS it has been brought to the attention of this
Board that in certain instances working mothers are reportedly
receiving up to $1,400 per month under the present AFDC welfare
formula; and
WHEREAS in the opinion of this Board provision of
public assistance in such situations represents an unwarranted
expenditure of 'public funds; and
WHEREAS payments in such situations appear to be made
in compliance with federal and state regglations; and
WHEREAS Contra. Costa County and the counties of the
State of California. have no ,jurisdictionover the formula pursuant
to which such payments ars nada;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLD that the Congress of the
United States, the U. S. Department of Health, Education and
Welfare, the California State Legislature, and the California
State Department of Social Welfare are hereby requested to
review the AFDC formula and to develop a revised formula which
retains the work incentive concept but which prescribes an income
limit related to family sizes and cost of living in the different
regions of the country, but which, in no event, shall exceed
$600 per month in total income; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution
shall be forwarded to Senator George Murphy, Senator Alan Cranston,
Congressman Jerome R. Waldie, State Senator John A. Nejedly,
Assemblyman Jahn T. Knox, Assemblyman James W. Dent, and to the
County Supervisors Association of California with the request
that said representatives and Association support the aforesaid
position of this Board.
PASSED AND ADOPTER this 16th day of June, 1970 by the
following vote of the Board:
AYES: Supervisors J. P. Kenny, A. M. Dias,
J. E. Moriarty, E. A. Linscheid, T. J. Coll.
NOES: None.
