RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING RESOLUTION NO. 20OV396
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2001
AS SHELTER, INC. DAY IN CONTRA
COSTA COUNTY
WHEREAS, the number of people in Contra Costa County who are without permanent affordable housing or
who are at risk of losing their housing has increased significantly over the last decade; and
WHEREAS, families make up approximately one-third of the homeless population, one homeless person in
four is a child, and veterans comprise one-quarter to one-half of the homeless people who often have full-time
employment but do not earn enough to pay for shelter; and

WHEREAS, since 1986 SHELTER, Inc. of Contra Costa County has provided services to low income and
homeless people through a variety of programsi to help them achieve economic self-sufficiency; and
WHEREAS, SHELTER, Inc. supports affordable housing, renting to working families and individuals whose
incomes are too low to afford market-rate housing; and
WHEREAS, SHELTER, Inc. provides emergency case management services to assist families who are on the
brink of becoming homeless; and
WHEREAS, SHELTER, Inc. is now established in its own building in Martinez for the first time in its fifteen
year history.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does
hereby proclaim I
