1997 as JUDGE BARBARA ZUNIGA ) RESOLUTION NO. 97/387
DAY in Contra Costa County )
WHEREAS, on September 28, 1997, Contra Costa County Superior Court Judge Barbara Zuniga
will become President of the National Association of Women Judges; and
WHEREAS, Judge Zuniga has worked for Contra Costa County for nearly 30 years, beginning
at the Probation Department and moving on to the District Attorney's Office until her
appointment in 1985 and subsequent election to the Walnut Creek-Danville Municipal Court; and
WHEREAS, in June 1994,Judge Zuniga was elected to the Contra Costa County Superior Court;
and
WHEREAS, Judge Zuniga has lent her expertise to many local, state, and federal judicial
associations, often serving as an officer or committee leader; and
WHEREAS, Judge Zuniga has also been involved in many community organizations as a speaker,

panelist, and moderator, along with being an instructor at John F. Kennedy University School
of Law, an author, and a mentor for teenage girls; and
WHEREAS, Judge Zuniga's high profile, hard work, and dedication have broken many barriers
so more women would be encouraged to enter the judicial arena, and we are fortunate to have
benefitted from her contributions for so many years in Contra Costa County.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors declares September 28, I,
1997, as JUDGE BARBARA ZUNIGA DAY in Contra Costa County and wishes her much
success during her term as President of the National Association of Women Judges.
