RESOLUTION NO. 96/334
SUBJECT: RECOGNITION OF 10 YEARS OF SERVICE BY JOHN MUIR MEDICAL
CENTER AS CONTRA COSTA COUNTY'S LEVEL II TRAUMA CENTER
WHEREAS the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors approved a comprehensive
Trauma System Plan for Contra Costa County in December 1985, and designated John Muir
Medical Center as the Level 11 Trauma Center for the County following a rigorous proposal
review process; and
WHEREAS John Muir Medical Center began functioning as a Level II Trauma Center
on June 30, 1986, with the implementation of the County's Trauma System Plan; and
WHEREAS the Board of Supervisors found the County's trauma system to be an
unqualified success in response to a five year evaluation completed in June 21 , 1991 ; and
WHEREAS the commitment of John Muir Medical Center, including its physician,
nursing and support staffs to providing high quality trauma care to all critically injured
patients is evidenced through John Muir's participation in a highly visible and effective
trauma audit process; and
WHEREAS John Muir Medical Center has actively supported injury prevention and
public education programs aimed at decreasing trauma death and injury, and
WHEREAS over 10,000 potentially critical trauma patients have been served by the
John Muir Medical Center since its Trauma Center designation; and
WHEREAS the level of trauma care services being provided by John Muir Medical
Center as the County's Level II Trauma Center, are recognized as a vital element of the
County's integrated trauma care system.
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors
recognizes, appreciates and commends the efforts of John Muir Medical Center and its
trauma physicians, nurses and support employees whose commitment, professionalism,
expertise, involvement and tireless participation, has resulted in the high level of trauma care
afforded within Contra Costa County on the occasion of this Ten (10) year anniversary of
the inception of this vital program.
