Bowerman, author of The Ffowerin6 Plants and Eerns of Mount Diablo, CaCi ornia spearheaded the formation of Save Mount{Diablo to acquire landand to educate the public; Bonweff provided the leadership necessary to esta6Cuh the organization-from assembling representative groups, to representing Save Mount Diablo at public hearings and at meetings with officials, to designing the groups first stationary;and 'G4Y&PEAS, Bowerman is considered the expert on Mount{Diablo s resources. She has headed up the group's land acquisition efforts throughout its history and helped establish ambitious goats to protect an area many times larger than the State Park then included. By 1995, 24 years after Save Mount Diablo was organizedandCarge because of Bonweff andBowerman's leadership, the State Parkhas e7andedfrom 6,800 to 19,000 acres, WJftE WS, Save Mt. Diablo is a Contra Costa land trust which has been preserving lands on Mount Diablo and educating the pu6lc about the mountain's natural values since 1971. Save Mount Diablo has 5500 members and is operated by 15 volunteer board members and three staff members.
