CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
In the Matter of Honoring )
FIREFIGHTER ED KUIDIS, JR. as the RESOLUTION NO. 951341
1995 Red Knight Awardee )
WHEREAS, the Knights of Columbus was formed in 1881 by Catholic men who were
predominately police officers and fire fighters; and
WHEREAS, today members of the Knights of Columbus enjoy such benefits as free life insurance
and tuition for their children to any Catholic school in the United States; and
WHEREAS, twelve years ago the local chapter of the Knights of Columbus began to honor police
officers, sheriff deputies, and fire fighters with the Blue Knight Award, the Gold Knight Award,
and the Red Knight Award, respectively; and
WHEREAS, the awardees, who do not have to members, are selected by their coworkers for their
outstanding service or a particular act of bravery; and
WHEREAS, this year's Red Knight Award recipient is Firefighter Ed Kuidis, Jr., who has been
a member of the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District for 14 years; and
WHEREAS, Firefighter Kuidis was selected for the Award for his heroism and quick thinking
during a traffic accident which he happened upon during his off-duty hours, and thanks to his
efforts, a human life was saved; and
WHEREAS, we are proud to have a firefighter of Ed Kuidis' caliber working for Contra Costa
County and wish him continued success with his career.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors honors FIREFIGHTER
ED KUIDIS, JR., as the recipient of the 1995 Red Knight Award.
PASSED AND ADOPTED ON August 1, 1995, by a unanimous vote of the Board members
present.
