HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 09271994 - 94-467 � . i IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Declaring October 2, 1994 ) as AIDS AWARENESS DAY in Contra Costa ) RESOL U77ON NO. 941467 County in Recognition of the Third Annual ) Walk-for AIDS ) WHEREAS, October is National AIDS Awareness Month; and WHEREAS, the AIDS epidemic continues to grow and seriously impact Contra Costa's communities; and WHEREAS, to date, over 1200 persons in Contra Costa County have been diagnosed with AIDS and thousands more are thought to be carrying the HIV virus; and WHEREAS, apathy, ignorance, and misinformation continue to hamper efforts to stop the spread of AIDS; and WHEREAS, numerous Contra Costa AIDS service providers have come together for the past three years to raise funds and awareness with the Walk for AIDS; and WHEREAS, this year's Walk for AIDS on Sunday, October 2, at Todos Santos Park in Concord is expected to be the largest AIDS-related event in this county's history. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors declares Sunday, October 2 as AIDS AWARENESS DAY in Contra Costa County; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the community is encouraged to participate in the Third Annual Contra Costa County Walk forAIDS in Concord, with ceremonies beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Todos Santos Park. PASSED AND ADOPTED ON September 27, 1994, by a unanimous vote of the Board members present.
